Derby County are said to be plotting a surprise transfer swoop for former striker Cameron Jerome according to Turkish media outlet A Spor.

The 33-year-old is currently playing his football in Turkey with Goztepe in the top-flight. Jerome has made 23 appearances for the Turkish side, but has scored just three goals so far this term.

Jerome is a player that Derby fans will know well, as he previously made 20 appearances for the Rams back in the 2017/18 season, where the forward hit six goals in total for the Rams.

The report from A Spor also revealed that the likes of Swansea City and Millwall are also keeping tabs on Jerome's contract situation, with it being believed that Goztepe aren't likely to renew his contract with the club this season, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

Phillip Cocu's side are in with a chance of making a late charge for the play-off places in the Championship this season, with the Rams being just five points adrift of sixth-placed Preston North End with nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

However, due to recent events, that play-off bid has been put on hold, with football not set to commence until the 30th April at the very earliest.

The Verdict:

I'm really not sure about this one.

Jerome would have been a good addition for a number of Championship teams a few years ago, but I have my doubts as to whether he'd be up to the standards required for Phillip Cocu's side nowadays.

At the age of 33, I don't think he'd anywhere near their starting XI to be honest. Derby have better options available to them, and I'd rather see them give some of their promising young players a chance in the side.

There are better options out there for Phillip Cocu's side in the summer, that's for sure.
