Derby County legend Alan Hinton has poked fun at Nottingham Forest this morning with a post that's bound to raise the temperature of a few Forest fans.

Hinton played for Forest in the early sixties, winning three England caps, but later moved to Derby where he enjoyed huge success under Briann Clough. He won the First Division in 1972 and again in 1975 and earned the nickname 'Gladys' for his blonde perm and on-field style.

He went into management in the US, spending time with Tulsa Roughnecks, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps and Tacoma Stars before retiring.

He's still based in Seattle and regular tweets about football, but this morning's joke will be of interest to fans on both sides of the East Midlands' divide.

He's tweeted: "Many years ago Forest and Notts County rivalry was such; A Lady went up to ticket sales office and ordered 40 tickets for Notts game. After she paid the bill she said to salesperson, 'What time does game kickoff?' Salesman said 'What time would you like it?'"

Whilst he might not be a name many modern football fans are overly familiar with, it's nice to see a former player still retaining a sense of humour and perhaps stoking the fire a little between the age-old adversaries.

The Verdict

There's always room for a bit of humour in football, so Alan Hinton's joke might be a bit of relief for Derby fans at least. It's important to be able to poke fun at your rivals, especially when all of the pressure seems to have been on your club.

In what has been an utterly horrible week for the Rams, perhaps a little light relief at Forest's expense might lighten the mood.

It won't change the league table though and right now, Sabri Lamouchi's side are having the loudest laugh, if not quite the last.
