Derby County currently lead the chase for highly-rated Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker, who has attracted attention from a host of potential suitors, according to FLW sources.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge ten years ago, Baker has successfully progressed through the ranks to captain the U21 side, as well as make his senior debut. The 19-year-old has also represented England at U17s and U19s level on several occasions.
Earlier this year, Blues boss, Jose Mourinho tipped the promising midfielder to represent the England national team ‘in a few years’.
“My conscience tells me that if Baker, Brown, and Solanke are not national team players in a few years, I should blame myself,” Mourinho said to the Daily Mail.
“They are part of a process the club started without me. In this moment, we have players who will be Chelsea players. And when they become Chelsea players, they will become England players, almost for sure.”
FLW understands Leeds United are another side monitoring the England youth international’s situation, as they look to bolster their midfield options.
However, according to FLW sources, their priority is to fill the vacant manager’s post, before recruiting anymore players on loan.
