Duane Holmes has the Derby County, Rotherham and Blackburn after his signature, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old has a year of his contract remaining after the Iron opted to activate the option in his contract at the end of last season to extend it for another year.

Therefore, they are likely to benefit financially because he should be moving up to the Championship this summer.

Holmes scored seven goals and assisted five in 47 league games, including the play-offs, with most of those being from the wing.

Although he also played as an attacking midfielder as well as a number of other roles.

Scunthorpe finished the season strongly with four wins and a draw in the last five games to finish in fifth place. However, Rotherham were a step too far for them as the Millers came away 4-2 victors in the play-off semi-finals.

The Verdict

Derby could utilise Holmes' contract situation to get him for a cheap price, but it's also dependent on how interested Rotherham and Blackburn are in signing him because they could drive the price up.

The Rams shouldn't invest too heavily on him because their limited finances mean they can't afford to take risks, which Holmes would represent.

Holmes would provide an option in an important area, though, because the Rams are weak in attacking areas in terms of genuine wide threats, because a lot of their attacking options are midfielders who start in central areas or drift into them from wide areas, so they need players who can stop the opposition playing narrow.
