Derby County are interested in bringing in a new goalkeeper this month, with the Rams monitoring Bournemouth's Asmir Begovic and Hull City's George Long, according to Daily Mirror journalist James Nursey.

The Rams have endured some issues in the goalkeeping department during the first half of the campaign, with Kelle Roos starting the season as the club's number one keeper, before being dropped in favour of Ben Hamer following a number of individual errors from the 27-year-old.

Begovic has spent the first half of the campaign out on loan at Azerbaijan side Qarabag, having lost his place in Bournemouth's starting line-up during the second half of last season, but the keeper could be set to return to his parent club and make another potential move away this month.

Long, meanwhile, has enjoyed a strong start to the season, having established himself as Hull's first choice keeper under Grant McCann, and the Tigers will not really be wanting to lose the 26-year-old this month..

The Verdict

Given Derby's struggles in the goalkeeping department so far this season it is no surprise to see the Rams in the market for a new number one keeper, with Roos having clearly lost the trust of Cocu to be the club's number one between the sticks.

Begovic would offer plenty of experience and a real commanding presence in goal, but there will be some concern over the keeper's dip in form that saw him lose his place in Bournemouth's side last season.

Long, meanwhile, would be a good addition and is at the right sort of age where Cocu can develop his game, but Hull will be very reluctant to lose their first choice keeper, so it would probably take a large offer from Derby to make them consider allowing him to leave.
