Derby County hoping defender is fit for opening game

Derby County are hoping defender Jake Buxton is ready for the opening game of the new Championship campaign next Saturday against Rotherham United.

The 29 year old missed the final pre-season game for the Rams yesterday due to a hip flexor which saw Derby run out 2-0 victory over Scottish Giants Glasgow Rangers at the iPro Stadium.

First choice left-back Craig Forsyth filled in at centre-back as cover for Buxton were also injured in Zak Whitbread and Mark O’Brien.

Derby head coach Steve McClaren speaking to the Derby Telegraph ”We are hoping Jake’s injury is not too serious  and he will be back for next week.”

McClaren is also hoping Zak Whitbread will be available for selection for next week.
