Derby County are still dusting themselves down after missing out on promotion to the Premier League following their play-off final defeat.

Frank Lampard's side produced a magnificent comeback against Leeds United to reach the final, but they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa to resign themselves to a further season in the Championship.

However, the Rams have now been boosted by the significant news that goalkeeper Kelle Roos has signed a new contract at the club until 2022.

The 27-year-old's previous contract was due to run out this summer, but a string of impressive performances in Derby's run to the play-off final has seen him sign on for another three years.

Roos was handed an opportunity in Lampard's side after Scott Carson suffered a mid-season injury, and the Dutchman then made 16 appearances in the second half of the campaign as the Rams secured a sixth-placed finish.

The goalkeeper has been at Pride Park since 2014, but he has made a total of just 29 appearances for the club after only cementing his place in the side this season.

The Verdict

This update has provided a much-needed boost to Derby fans, with the club already now looking ahead to next season.

Roos was a key part of Derby's run to the play-offs after being patient at Pride Park, and this contract extension is a deserved reward for his efforts.

The three-year deal is also a significant show of faith from the club, particularly following his error at Wembley which led to John McGinn's goal, and it will give him renewed confidence ahead of next season.
