Derby County have taken Isak Olafsson on trial, not long after he had a similar spell at Leeds United. Representatives of the 17-year old Icelandic defender revealed the news on Twitter.

Despite his young age, the teenager is already building his experience. He played 26 times for Keflavik, who play in the second division in Iceland. As well as that, he is an under-19 international for his country and is well thought of.

Olafsson is primarily a centre-back, but he has also played games in a defensive midfield for his club and he will no doubt be relishing the opportunity to impress those in charge at the iPro Stadium. With the Icelandic season having finished last month, it appears the youngster is making the most of the opportunities available to him, having spent a week with Leeds earlier this month.

It remains to be seen if the Whites will go back in for him, or if he suitably impressed. However, the fact he is now training at Derby could put them at the front of the queue should they want to pursue a deal for Olafsson.

The Verdict

Derby fans won't know much about Olafsson but the will be pleased to see that their club are always looking to improve things for the future. Of course, any deal will be down to the defender impressing the coaches, but the fact that two high-profile Championship clubs have come in for him suggests that he has a lot of talent. It will also benefit the player that he already has reasonable experience under his belt despite his age.
