Derby County have been drawn against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the fourth round of the League Cup, the club where manager Frank Lampard became a legend on the pitch.

The Rams pulled off the shock of the third round when they defeated Manchester United on penalties at Old Trafford after a 2-2 draw and will be hoping of causing a second upset against Maurizio Sarri's side.

Lampard played 640 times for the Blues during his time with the club and became their all-time top scorer in the process, netting 209 goals as well as 150 assists.

He was a crucial part of teams who won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League and will no doubt be given a rousing reception on his return.

Derby have had a decent start to the season under Lampard and currently sit in eighth place in the Championship table.

The verdict

It all seems a bit too convenient, doesn't it?

But conspiracy theories aside, Lampard will be relishing the chance to return to the club where he made his name and really prove himself as a manager.

He has already proven himself to be more than capable from the sidelines but a win against his former club would be the highlight for sure.
