Derby County winger Florian Jozefzoon is a target for German side Schalke, Football Insider have reported.

Jozefzoon only joined the Rams from Championship rivals Brentford last summer for £3million, but he endured a difficult debut campaign at Pride Park, scoring just three goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.

It is thought that Derby could be willing to cash in on the 28-year-old, and Schalke have emerged as a potential destination for the Dutchman.

The German side appointed former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner as their manager in May, and they are said to be keen to advantage of his knowledge of English football in the transfer market.

Schalke - who finished 14th in the 18 team league last season - have already completed the signing of one English based player in the summer transfer window, with defender Jonjoe Kenny joining on a season-long loan from Everton.

There are still two years remaining on Jozefzoon's contract at Derby, meaning the Rams should be in a strong position to negotiate a fee for the 28-year-old.

The Verdict

This may not be the worst move for Derby.

Having struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Rams' starting XI last season - or make much of an impact when he did get the opportunity on the pitch - you imagine the Dutchman may not be missed too should he be moved along.

You also feel that with Jozefzoon still well within his contract at Pride Park, Derby could be confident of getting a reasonably decent fee for the winger from a club the size of Schalke, which could then be reinvested in other areas of the squad.

They may have to move quickly if they are to do that however, with the transfer window already moving towards its final weeks, which could lead to plenty of action at a number of clubs.
