Frank Lampard has emerged as a potential target for former side, Chelsea as the pressure continues to grow on Maurizio Sarri according to The Sun.

The Derby boss has been impressive in his first season in his managerial career and will be keen to win promotion with the Rams this season.

Derby are currently sat 8th in the Championship table, but with one game in hand, they can return to the top six with a win.

Lampard's side have suffered a slight blip in form recently and supporters will be keen to see their side get back on track at the earliest of opportunities.

But speculation linking him with the managerial post at Chelsea couldn't have come at a worse time for Derby, as this could derail their promotion bid this season.

The Rams will need stability heading into a crucial period of this season and this is the complete opposite - and it could have disastrous consequences.

This could be considered as Derby's best chance at gaining promotion back into the Premier League, with Lampard having a number of players that could arguably be playing in the top flight already.

Worringly for the fans, losing the boss now could have a big impact on their long-term planning too.

Lampard won't ever come out and say that he wants to join Chelsea whilst he is still in charge at Derby, but it's quite obvious that he would jump at the chance to return.

This could be a nervous ending to the season for the Rams, but supporters will be hoping that Lampard can remain at the club whatever happens as the future could be bright under the 40-year-old.
