Derby County manager Frank Lampard has been charged by the FA with improper conduct after he was sent off during his side's disappointing 1-0 defeat to Rotherham on Saturday.

The Rams went into the game against the Yorkshire side seeking a fourth successive victory however it was a very frustrating afternoon for Lampard's men.

Attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence was deservedly shown a straight red card for a very late tackle, although Derby were unfortunate that a soft penalty was given to the hosts after that.

With his side trailing and Lampard still angry from the earlier call he then went a long way out of his technical area to complain about another decision to the linesman shortly after the penalty.

That prompted the referee to send him off and Sky Sports have confirmed how he has now been charged for his behaviour.

"Derby County manager Frank Lampard has been charged following the game against Rotherham United on Saturday [15/09/18]. It is alleged that his behaviour in the 77th minute amounted to improper conduct," an FA statement read.

The Chelsea legend has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge and the report states he is likely to get a fine for his actions not a touchline ban.

The Verdict

You can understand why Lampard was frustrated as it was a tough afternoon for his side and he will have felt the penalty and some other decisions were harsh.

However, you can't act like he did. When the referee sees him so far out of his technical area just to complain he has no choice but to send him off.

Fortunately, it appears he won't get a touchline ban as that would've been another blow for the team.
