Derby County want another winger this summer, according to a reliable football journalist.

Respected journalist Alan Nixon is reporting that Derby County are keen to add another wide man to their books and have identified Preston North End winger Callum Robinson as a potential target.

Derby lost Tom Ince this summer.

The left-footed winger weighed in with a number of goals and assists for the Rams last season and that will be sorely missed after he joined Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town in the summer window.

In Derby's current squad, they have Andi Weimann, Mason Bennett, Johnny Russell, Ikechi Anya and Nick Blackman able to play in the wide roles but none of those are going to match Ince's contribution.

Preston North End winger Callum Robinson is on Derby's radar to replace Ince and they have made an enquiry.

The Rams are hoping that the versatile forward, who can play out wide or through the middle, will continue to develop into a top player.

After scoring eleven goals last season, the 22-year-old is certainly showing signs that he can turn into a top class player in the near future.

The former England under-20 international only joined Preston North End on a permanent deal last summer after leaving leaving Aston Villa.

He has two years left on his current Preston deal but Derby are trying to prise him away.

The Verdict

Gary Rowett is very shrewd in the transfer window.

The signing of Callum Robinson, provided they can bring him in at the right price, would be a very wise move as he is young (aged 22) and already performing at a top level in the second tier.

The former Aston Villa man provides goals and assists from midfield and he is only going to get better with time.
