Derby County defender Curtis Davies has been on social media paying tribute to James Milner as the Liverpool man racked up his 500th Premier League appearance.
Davies, currently on the treatment table at Pride Park, played with Milner at Aston Villa and after the 32-year old turned out for Liverpool in their 4-0 win at Bournemouth, he offered his own words of congratulations on Twitter.
“Shout out to @JamesMilner on his 500th Premier League appearance. Not only a great player but the best “professional” I’ve played with. Absolutely dedicated to the game and deserves everything that he has got out of it and I’m sure there’s a lot more to come.”
Milner began his career at Leeds United and there’s been rumours that a move back to Elland Road might be something he’d consider in the future, but for now he is still right at the top of his game. The Reds’ win, coupled with Manchester City’s inability to beat Chelsea later in the day, meant his 500th appearance was one that fired his team to the top of the Premier League.
As for Davies, he was an entertained spectator as his Derby County team mates earned a 1-0 win against ten-man Wigan Athletic to strengthen their own shout for a Premier League spot next season.
It’s always nice to see the human side of players, all too often it can be forgotten that they’re just like you and I, mates who form strong bonds.
Milner’s achievement is tremendous and it is odd to think he’s only 32 as he’s been around years. He’s clearly an inspiration to other players, as well as the fans he’s delighted throughout his career.
