Derby County allowed youth team graduate Will Hughes to join Premier League Watford last month, and boss Gary Rowett will be keen to find a suitable replacement for the young star before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Hughes is a fantastic player who operates brilliantly in the middle of the park with his calm nature and ability to find a pass, and Rowett will look to find something similar when he searches the market in the coming weeks.

One player who would fill the void left by Hughes perfectly is Reading midfielder John Swift, whose series of impressive performances helped Reading to an extremely unlikely third place finish last season.

The midfielder joined the Royals from Chelsea on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer having impressed on loan at Brentford the season before, and could be on the move again this summer if the right offer were to materialise.

Swift’s 8 goals and 4 assists from the middle last semester were vital to reading’s success, but his all round today play in the middle of the park is what separates the 22-year-old from many of his peers.

Swift has the ability to drop into space to find the ball, as well as driving forward from the middle to help the likes of Yann Kermorgant in the striking positions.

The midfielder is very effective operating just off the main man, and can dictate play from an attacking midfield role.

The player would be the perfect replacement, if not an upgrade on Hughes, and with Rowett having cash to splash this summer, a move for young Swift could prove to be the best business of the summer.
