According to the Derby Telegraph, Derby County are considering a formal bid for Callum Robinson, with Gary Rowett interested in signing the Preston North End forward.

Reports emerged towards the end of the week confirming that Derby had made an enquiry about Robinson, as Rowett looks to add further players to his squad this summer.

After their initial approach, the Rams are now considering a formal bid for the forward, with Rowett desperate to add some attacking options to his squad.

Derby were initially interested in signing Tom Lawrence from Leicester City, but having failed with a £7m bid to sign him, their attentions seem to have turned to Robinson.

Robinson only arrived at Preston last summer, after impressing in three separate loan spells at Deepdale.

The 22-year-old again impressed last season, making 42 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship and scoring ten goals, helping the Lilywhites finish the 2016/17 campaign in the top-half of the table.

Robinson still has two-years remaining on his contract with Preston.

Having sold both Will Hughes and Tom Ince earlier this summer, Rowett is looking to add more creativity to his squad between now and the end of the summer, which is what has triggered his interest in Robinson.

Derby began their Championship campaign last night with a 1-1 draw at Sunderland, where Bradley Johnson gave the Rams the lead, before a Lewis Grabban penalty levelled the contest.

The Verdict

This is certainly a transfer that will have to be watched in the coming weeks, with Derby’s interest in Robinson clearly not going away.

Derby’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland showed that they lacked a cutting edge in attack, which will worry Rowett, particularly with the calibre of player he had in his squad.

Preston will be desperate to keep hold of Robinson this summer, but after failing in their attempts to sign Lawrence, it would be no surprise to see Derby up their interest in the Preston man.
