Derby County have confirmed on the club's official website that Curtis Davies has signed a new deal.

Davies puts pen to paper on a new contract at Pride Park, amid interest from Stoke City.

The Potters, under the guidance of former Derby manager Gary Rowett, were hoping to strengthen their defensive options this summer by bringing in Davies but this speculation has been put to bed with this new deal.

The 33-year-old has signed an extension at Derby, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Davies was a standout performer for Derby last year as they finished sixth and achieved a play-off spot.

His performances saw him win a nomination for the PFA Championship Player of the Year accolade and earned him plenty of admirers.

Formerly of West Brom, Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Hull City, the veteran defender has now committed his future to the Rams and will play under new boss Frank Lampard.

The Verdict

The Derby skipper's presence at the back is vitally important for the club's success.

Not only is he a magnificent defender, he is also a leader, a mentor and someone who has no problems with facing up to the media following a bad result.

On and off the pitch, Davies is the ideal character to have around and this news will be music to Derby fans' ears.
