Derby County closing in on deal for Blackburn Rovers man, talks underway

Derby County are set to strengthen their promotion credentials with the signing of Marcus Olsson from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers, according to HITC Sport.

Olsson, 27, whose contract expires this summer recently turned down an extension at Ewood Park.

It appears that instead of letting him go for free, Paul Lambert has decided to demand a fee from Paul Clement’s Derby.

Olsson can play in defence as well as in midfield, and signed for the Lancashire club from Halmstads of Sweden in 2012.

He has played 104 times in the league for Rovers, scoring one goal – Olssom has also played 20 times this season, and is an important member of their squad.

Derby’s left-backs Stephen Warnock and Craig Forsyth haven’t been able to nail down a permanent spot in the Rams’ starting XI so far this season, so the addition of Olsson may well add stability to Paul Clement’s side.

The Rams currently sit in third place in the Sky Bet Championship, having amassed 49 points from 27 league games this season.

Derby face a tough test against Burnley at Turf Moor in the Sky Bet Championship on Monday.

Derby fans, what do you think? Is Olsson the final cog in the machine that will see you get promoted this season? Blackburn fans, how devastating a blow will Olsson’s departure be if he does move this month. Get involved below!
