Clement is happy with his two new signings

Clement took his first step into football management when he was unveiled as Rams boss last week, and Bent and Pearce become his first ever signings as a manager.

Striker Bent, 31, has joined the club after enjoying a loan spell last season in which he scored 12 times in 17 games, and has agreed on a two-year deal with the option of a third year.

26-year-old defender Pearce was a free agent after ending a 14 year spell at Reading, and has signed a three-year deal at the iPro Stadium.

Former Chelsea and PSG assistant Clement has the final say on all transfer dealings at the Midlands club, but it is believed that the deals to sign the duo were close to completion prior to his arrival from Real Madrid last week.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph following the announcement of the deals on Monday, Clement expressed his delight at having secured the signatures of both players.

"Darren is a proven goalscorer and that was something he proved during his loan spell with the club last season.

"He is going to be key in our plans to move forward."

"Alex is an experienced central defender and we're very pleased to have him signed. He is strong, physical and an international footballer as well, so he has a lot of good qualities."
