The former Chelsea coach was assistant boss at European super club Real Madrid, playing second fiddle the Carlo Ancelotti. Even before former boss Steve McClaren was sacked, he was linked with the Rams job and was appointed as their manager on Monday

All three targets were also linked with the Rams before Clement stepped in, so they’re all long term targets.

Villa striker Darren Bent spent the remainder of the season on loan at the iPro after falling out of favour at Villa, and as his contract expires this summer, it’s expected that a swoop will be made from Derby.

Andi Weimann is the most recent target, and Tim Sherwood has reportedly already accepted a £2 million bid from Derby this week, as he overhauls his squad.

Alex Pearce has rejected the chance to stay at boyhood club Reading, and is expected to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Rams before his contract expires this summer.

Clement told the Derby Telegraph: “All those three are possibilities but no more than that at this stage.”
