Derby County announced their retained list this morning, with Stephen Warnock and Conor Sammon being told they are free to find a new club this summer upon their contract expiry.
Warnock featured heavily for Derby this season following the injury to Craig Forsyth that ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Marcus Olsson’s arrival from Blackburn in January left Warnock surplus to requirements and he was sent out on loan to Wigan Athletic.
Warnock has been regarded by Latics fans as a key component in their promotion back to the Championship.
It is believed that Warnock has signed a deal at Wigan that will take him back to the DW Stadium and face former employers Derby next season.
Conor Sammon was signed by Nigel Clough from Wigan in the summer of 2012 and never really hit the heights that his transfer fee might have suggested he would.
Sammon notched just nine goals for Derby in his opening season and incoming manager Steve McClaren limited Sammon to substitute appearances, despite scoring two crucial late winners against Watford and Middlesbrough.
Sammon then spent loans spells for the last two seasons at Ipswich, Rotherham and Sheffield United.
