Nigel Pearson is looking to bolster his squad with the signing of free agent Martin Caceres, according to website Derby County Mad.
The report suggests that Derby face competition from Premier League Swansea and rivals Nottingham Forest in the race to land the Uruguay international.
Caceres is available on a free after leaving Italian champions Juventus earlier in the summer, following the expiry of his contract.
The 29-year-old centre half has had an impressive career, enjoying spells with European giants Barcelona, Sevilla and Juventus. He also has 68 caps for Uruguay.
The tenacious defender is most comfortable in the middle but can also play as a full back if necessary.
He would bring vast experience to Derby or Nottingham Forest, having won plenty of trophies including the Copa America, five Serie A titles, La Liga and the Champions League.
Nottingham Forest have already conceded 15 goals this season so could do with some defensive reinforcements.
Derby – on the other hand – have struggled in front of goal but would welcome the experienced Caceres to give the team a boost.
Derby and Nottingham Forest fans – what do you think? Would Caceres be a good signing? What could he offer the club?
