Derby County ace reacts to Mason Mount’s weekend strike for Chelsea

Published

on

Mason Mount got on the scoresheet for Chelsea at the weekend, as the London club picked up a 4-1 win against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Tammy Abraham, N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi also netted for Frank Lampard’s side, as the Blues moved up to 5th spot in the Premier League table.

Mount has been in excellent form for Chelsea under Lampard this season, after enjoying a hugely impressive loan spell under the 41-year-old at Derby County last term.

The playmaker has now scored four goals this season, and seems to have gone from strength to strength since his enjoyable loan spell at Pride Park.

Derby have finally started to pick up in the Championship under Phillip Cocu, but it’s likely that Rams fans will watch Mount’s performances through gritted teeth, with the midfielder giving them a reminder of his stellar performances last term.

After another goal for Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, Derby striker Martyn Waghorn took to Instagram to share his delight at his former teammate’s goal, saying that he is on fire.

The Verdict

It’s great to see Mount finally get given a chance by Chelsea, and he is really continuing to improve under Frank Lampard.

It just proves what kind of impact a loan move to the EFL can do for a player’s career – would Mount have been in Chelsea’s team this season if he didn’t go out on loan to Derby last term? It’s unlikely.

It’s also nice to see Derby players continue to have a friendship with the Chelsea midfielder, after a really good season last time out.
