Derby County midfielder Jacob Butterfield was left frustrated by his side’s inability to breakdown Burton Albion’s excellent defence last night, reports the club’s official website.

Steve McClaren’s side were held to a goalless draw by relegation threatened Burton, who have now picked up four points from their last two matches, against the Rams and Play-Off chasing Norwich City.

Last night’s result means Derby have secured just two-points from three home league fixtures, following a draw with Bristol City and a defeat to Cardiff City.

Butterfield criticised Derby’s failure to breakdown Nigel Clough’s side last night, after applying so much pressure, he told the club’s website: “It was very frustrating. We controlled and dominated the game, but they defended really deep and let us have the ball, but we just couldn’t get the goal.

“We were missing that bit of quality in the final third, that bit of magic, and it just didn’t go for us the longer it went on. It’s a disappointing point for us in the end.”

McClaren’s side now face a mammoth task if they are to break into the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs, as they currently sit 11th and are now ten-points behind sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday.

More worryingly for McClaren, is that the Rams are now five games without a win across all competitions, and haven’t tasted victory since last month’s triumph over Ipswich Town.

The Rams face two more struggling sides in the coming weeks, as they travel to Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers, where Butterfield claimed he and his teammates would do everything to secure six-points:

“We’ll do everything we need to do to try and achieve that, because it’s another big opportunity.”
