Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Joe Ledley has admitted that there have been no discussions between him and Derby County over extending his short-term deal at the Pride Park Stadium.

Derby moved to bring Ledley, who was a free agent, to Pride Park last month, with the Welsh midfielder agreeing a deal until the end of 2017 with Gary Rowett’s side. The 30-year-old has been extremely impressive since linking up with the Rams, but despite making a huge impact, discussions have not begun between the two parties.

Ledley remained calm about the situation when revealing, he said: “No, there's been nothing at the moment. It's still early doors - I've only been here for a month or so."

Ledley is open to staying at the Pride Park Stadium beyond his current deal, after helping Derby rise through the Championship table since his arrival. The Rams currently sit ninth in the table, but are unbeaten in their last five fixtures, which has left Rowett’s side just three points outside the top-six.

Derby have picked up back-to-back victories against Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park, but now head away from home twice in the coming week, visiting Norwich City and Leeds United before the end of October.

The Verdict

Derby fans will be pleased to hear Ledley wants to stay, but will be extremely worried that the Rams have not opened negotiations over a new deal with the midfielder.

Ledley has been superb since his arrival in Derby, and if he doesn’t agree a new deal with Rowett’s side, he will not be short of other options in January.

The Welshman has been key to Derby’s pick up in results, and if they are to keep going on their quest for the top-six, retaining Ledley's service will be essential.
