Joe Ledley has taken to his personal Twitter account to deliver a message, after he put a disappointing week behind him by helping Derby County return to winning ways in the East Midlands derby.

The midfielder had been part of the Wales squad to miss out on World Cup qualification early last week, but returned to Derby to help the Rams to a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Pride Park Stadium.

Goals from Matej Vydra and David Nugent earned Derby bragging rights over their local rivals, helping Gary Rowett’s side to their first victory in over a month.

Ledley, 30, took to social media following Derby’s victory, issuing a message of relief, which read:

That victory helped to lift Derby to 13th in the Sky Bet Championship table, with Rowett’s side now just four points behind sixth placed, Leeds United.

Derby are in action at the Pride Park Stadium this coming weekend, welcoming Sheffield Wednesday, before heading away from home in back-to-back fixtures to complete the month.

A testing trip to Norwich City is first up, before the Rams travel to Elland Road to face Leeds on the final day of the month.

The Verdict

Ledley’s message is one of relief, and it is understandable after what must have been a difficult week.

The midfielder put all emotion to one side on Sunday, putting in an excellent display to help Derby to victory over Forest at the Pride Park Stadium.

The 30-year-old is proving to be a shrewd addition by Rowett, and Derby might want to reconsider his contract situation ahead of the January transfer window.
