Derby County are likely to move for Jack Marriott if they sell Matej Vydra, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Monday 25th June, 17:24].

Vydra is a major target for Leeds United this summer and the Whites are leading the chase for the Czech Republic international.

After he netted 21 league goals last season, the 26-year-old is attracting attention and Leeds are at the front of the queue with Derby rating their forward at £11m.

If Vydra does depart, Derby will look to reinvest some of that money in a replacement with Marriott being eyed.

The 23-year-old caught the attention of a number of clubs in the Championship after a prolific season for Peterborough United in League One.

The former Luton Town man hit 33 goals in all competitions for Posh and is being chased by a host of sides this summer, including Derby.

Norwich City are armed with a decent budget now that James Maddison and Josh Murphy have been sold for big money to Leicester City and Cardiff City respectively.

They could look to use some of that money to fund a move for Marriott, who Peterborough value at £6m.

Bristol City and Derby's rivals Nottingham Forest are also keen on the former Ipswich Town schoolboy.

The Verdict

Marriott is an unproven quantity at Championship level but he is worth the risk, even at that price.

The centre-forward is a natural goal scorer and he would surely be hitting goals at a higher level after making the step up from League Two to League One with ease last season.

Still only 23, Marriott has the potential to develop into a top player in the near future.
