Following weeks of speculation, Clement was appointed as head coach at the iPro on Monday morning, signing a three-year deal with the club.

The 43-year-old has spent the last six years as assistant manager to Carlo Ancelotti at European giants Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid; and despite the Derby job being his first managerial position, Rams chief Sam Rush is convinced that Clement is the man to bring success to the club.

“I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve got our man and it is an exciting day for Derby County," he told the club's official website.

“He has signed a three-year deal which gives him plenty of time to build and take the club forward and realise our ambitions and dreams.

“He is comfortable with the role of Head Coach and will slot into our existing structure that we have in place.

“I believe the broader management experience is something that he will take to very easily.

“I have been aware of Paul for many years and people will have seen his progress themselves.

“His rise has been meteoric and he has gained huge experience in England and abroad, operating at a very high level.

“He is a very impressive individual, he has great integrity and given all his achievements he is a very humble man.

“Paul is extremely determined to be successful and it is great for us to have such a well decorated and talented coach to take us forward.

“I’m excited about this next chapter," he continued.

“Paul is very ambitious and the supporters have a key role to play as well in supporting him and I am pleased with the early and positive feedback we’ve had.

“I think his relationship with the fans will be absolutely central to anything that he achieves.”
