Derby County manager Gary Rowett has told the club's official website that he believes Matej Vydra is thriving from his new role in a number 10 position.

By giving Vydra some "confidence and support", Rowett believes that Derby fans will finally start to see how talented Matej Vydra really is.

The 24-year-old had struggled to get going this season for Derby, although he was forced out wide for much of the season under Nigel Pearson and then Steve McClaren.

After scoring 3 goals in 34 appearances for the Rams under Pearson and McClaren, newly revived Matej Vydra has now hit 2 in 2 under Rowett.

The Czech Republic international capped off a fine individual performance against Queens Park Rangers by netting the winning goal as he pounced on a loose ball in the box to fire home.

Gary Rowett is now confident that these goals will start giving the former Watford striker the confidence he needs to kick on and show his full talent.

Rowett told Rams TV via the club's official website:

"Vyds anticipates those things like the goal against QPR really well.

"He can do it more and get into those areas because he proved his worth there.

"That's where you benefit from him playing behind the striker, he can sniff out a chance and when the ball rebounded out he was there.

"I'm really pleased with him and he's scoring goals.

"He's a number 10 and that's the type of player he is."
