The EFL have announced their nominees for October’s Player of the Month award, with Sammy Ameobi, Leo Bonatini, Lewis Grabban and Richard Keogh all penned as potential winners of the prestigious award.

Bolton forward Ameobi has been nothing short of sensational, and his three goals in four games proved integral as the Trotters moved away from the bottom three.

Two of Ameobi’s three strikes are being considered for the Goal of the Month award, with phenomenal efforts against Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland impressing the Football League’s panel.

Wolves striker Bonatini is in the midst of a wonderful run of form, and five goals in four games has helped to fire the Molineux side to the summit of the second tier table.

Everything the Brazilian touched in January turned to gold, and the forward is proving to be an extremely astute summer signing by manager Nuno Santo.

Despite his side sitting bottom of the table, Grabban has done everything he can to drag Sunderland from the doldrums, and five goals in only three and a half games marks an impressive return for the on-loan Bournemouth man.

Braces against Brentford and Bolton helped the Black Cats to much-needed draws, and Grabban could prove the difference between relegation and survival as the season progresses.

Derby won each of their four league fixtures in October, and Richard Keogh has been central to their impressive month.

The captain has led by example, and his battling displays at the heart of the back-line have seen the Rams concede just twice in four games, putting them firmly back into the playoff mix.

The Verdict

A number of excellent performances were seen during the month of October, but Leo Bonatini’s five goals in four games surely has to take the award.

Each player’s performances have had a massive effect on the league positions of their respective clubs, but Bonatini’s goals to put Wolves top of the league has to be credited.

The Brazilian is single-handedly leading Wolves to the Premier League, and if his form continues, Wolves will be a top-flight side next term.
