Derby County and Birmingham City are both interested in signing Oladapo Afolayan, according to a report by HITC Sport.

Oladapo Afolayan is currently playing non-league football for Solihull Moors but he has been attracted interest from a number of Football League clubs for a while.

Championship duo Derby and Birmingham are now set to lock horns in the battle for the young striker, who has been impressive for Solihull in the National League.

In the fifth tier of English football, Afolayan has stood out for the struggling Solihull Moors side, netting ten times in 27 games for the relegation threatened team this term.

This has just added to his burgeoning reputation after the 19-year-old bagged four goals in ten starts last season.

The former Chelsea youngster moved to Canada as a child and played for Toronto but returned to England to attend Loughborough University, where he has been studying Engineering.

But the teenage sensation could be set for a big move in his footballing career as Derby and Birmingham consider his services as they look to the future.

A number of other clubs have scouted him this season but it looks like Birmingham and Derby will go head to head in this battle now.

The Verdict

Oladapo Afolayan has raw talent and he knows where the net is. The 19-year-old would be an excellent addition for a Championship side but he should be sent back out on loan to further this footballing education with first team playing time at Solihull Moors. Derby and Birmingham probably appeal to Afolayan as they are close enough for him to continue his studies if he wishes to do so.
