Federico Fernandez completed a late transfer to Newcastle United from Swansea yesterday to end his four-year association with the Welsh club.

The Argentinian international joined the Swans in 2014 from Napoli and established himself as an important player for the club.

However, his final season for the side ended in disappointment, as the Swans were relegated from the top-flight.

As Fernandez was one of few who emerged with some sort of credit in that campaign, it seemed inevitable he would move.

Yet, nothing materialised until the end of the window, with the 29-year-old even playing in the Championship opener against Sheffield United last weekend.

But, in the end an agreement was reached with the Magpies and Fernandez took to Twitter to reveal just how much he enjoyed his time at the club:

The Verdict

It will be disappointing for Swansea to lose such an important player but Fernandez should be playing in the Premier League.

He had a good four years with the club on the whole and his message does seem genuine and he clearly enjoyed his time in Wales.

It's a nice touch for him to send this and he should be remembered fondly from Swansea fans as he gave his all in the shirt.
