Charlie Adam has revealed that he wants to continue his playing career, following confirmation that he is to leave Stoke at the end of the season.

It was announced last week that Adam, along with fellow midfielder Darren Fletcher and goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard, would all leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Adam made his 179th and final Stoke appearance in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Premier League bound Sheffield United, in the final game of what has been an underwhelming first season back in the second tier for The Potters.

But despite now being 33 and without a club, Adam has no plans to end his playing career just yet, as he also revealed that his stay at the bet365 Stadium could have been a much shorter one than it turned out to be, as he told The Stoke Sentinel: “To stay here this long was incredible. After six months, it looked like I could have been out in the first window that opened after I signed.

“So to then be here for another six-and-a-half years..."

Adam joined Stoke from Liverpool in the summer of 2012, and had registered 13 Premier League starts by the time the following January transfer window came around, going on to make 28 appearances in all during his debut campaign with the club.

The Verdict

It would be interesting to know what it was that made Adam feel as though his Stoke career was set to be a short one, given he wasn't exactly short of game time during his early months with the club.

As for his future career, you can still see Adam's pedigree and experience making him an attractive prospect for a club further down the divisions, though his record with Stoke this season suggests he could struggle to remain in the Championship next season, particularly if he is hoping for regular football.
