Bristol City lost ground in their pursuit of a Championship play-off spot as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat against league leaders West Brom at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon.

The seventh-placed Robins stood a chance of breaking back into the top six ahead of their clash with Slaven Bilic's side, but the Baggies ran out comfortable victors following two goals from Hal Robson-Kanu after Callum Robinson had put them in front.

West Brom also managed to seal their victory and clean sheet despite the fact they played the last 13 minutes with 10 men following Romaine Sawyers' dismissal, with City having struggled to compete with the Championship league leaders.

Speaking to the club's Twitter account, City boss Lee Johnson claimed his side were undone by individual errors in each of the goals, while he also thought the Robins played the game into Albion's hands at times despite Bilic's men showing their class.

“I don’t think there was an awful lot in the game. I thought we started bright in the first 10-15 minutes," Johnson said.

“We shot ourselves in the foot with a really poor individual error for the first (goal), two poor individual errors for the second and a bad individual error for the third.

“I’m not going to chastise the players for their effort because I thought they worked hard. I think at times West Brom showed their quality and we made bad decisions that played straight into their hands."

Plenty of City supporters responded by suggesting the City boss was making up excuses following an underwhelming display, while others suggested Johnson's comments failed to reflect that West Brom dominated much of the game.
