Sheffield Wednesday duo Steven Fletcher and Barry Bannan have been omitted from the Scotland squad once again, which has been well-received by plenty of fans of the Yorkshire club.

The pair have been arguably Wednesday's most important attacking outlets this season and played integral roles in their recent ascent up the Championship table.

Fletcher is the Owls' leading scorer this season, having found the net five times in the league this season.

No player in the Wednesday squad has provided more assists than Bannan's three, while he also leads the squad in key passes and average passes per game, according to Whoscored.

Despite their impressive starts to the season and influence on Garry Monk's side's fine form, neither have been included in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for the upcoming international break.

Scotland are set to face Cyprus and Kazakhstan in a few weeks time but while Wednesday defender Liam Palmer is named in the squad, neither Bannan nor Fletcher are.

Prior to their win against San Marino, Clarke's side were without a win in five games–scoring just once and conceding 19 goals in that run.

The Owls duo's omission appears to have been well received by Wednesday fans, who are happy they won't be at risk of picking up an injury.
