Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has urged the club's fans to come together and support the team ahead of Saturday's game at home to Barnsley.

Given the recent results, fans are divided over the future of Carlos Carvalhal, however, the owner backed the manager this week.

That division was clear at Derby County last weekend, where sections of the Owls support were seen fighting each other as the team fell to a 2-0 defeat.

The Sheffield Star report how Chansiri told the Supporters Steering Group meeting that he was sad to see such unsavoury scenes from the fans. “I don't want the fans to be separate. I don't want the fans to be fighting with each other.”

The Thai owner is still confident that the side can compete at the top of the league and said he just wants to see a team that is committed and playing for the shirt. “I always tell the players to do their best and play with their heart. I only question them if they don't give 100 per cent. We need to make them feel good, not down. I want the fans to help and support the team.

The Verdict

The poor start that the Owls have made has caused real anger amongst sections of the support and the incident at Derby proves how low the mood is among the fans.

It's good of Chansiri to speak out and it will have certainly given Carvalhal a boost as it stops the speculation until Saturday's game. However, if they lose it will be straight back on.

But, he will be in charge this weekend and even if the players don't deserve it, the fans should listen to their owner and get Hillsborough rocking this weekend.
