Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has confirmed in an interview with The Sheffield Star that manager Carlos Carvalhal has full power when it comes to identifying potential transfer targets.

Questions had been asked as to the Portuguese boss’ influence in recruitment, but Chansiri has dispelled the rumours by confirming that Carvalhal has control over who he would like added to his squad.

The Thai businessman spoke of recruitment, and said: “It is the responsibility of Carlos to present players that he believes will improve our squad.

"Carlos will present his targets on a basis of preference. So if we cannot achieve the first target, we move on to the second and so on.

“The final say on any player’s suitability rests with him.”

The Verdict

Chansiri’s transparency will come as very interesting news to Wednesday fans, with questions being raised by some as to the power Carvalhal has in regards to player recruitment.

Wednesday’s form has begun to improve in recent weeks but previously Carvalhal had come under great pressure, with some defending him over his ability to secure his own targets in the summer transfer window.

Carvalhal will be relieved that his side are back in form following his chairman’s admission, with the defence of a lack of power in regard to transfer targets dispelled by Chansiri’s words.

Wednesday fans will surely be pleased to hear that the manager has the final say on transfers however, with many clubs increasingly questioned over board members influence over matters on the field.
