Sheffield Wednesday have slowly dropped closer and closer to the relegation zone in recent weeks.

Jos Luhukay’s team are now five points from the bottom three after being within points of the top-six a couple of months ago.

A total downturn in form has been the reason for the decline, with just one win in their last ten matches.

There is a severe threat of being dragged into a relegation dogfight in the second half of the campaign if things do not improve.

One man who is adamant the club will not drop back to League One is the club’s chairman Dejphon Chansiri, who offered his thoughts on Wednesday evening during an Owls’ fans forum.

Reported by Sheffield Star journalist, Dom Howson, and BBC Sheffield sports editor Andy Giddings, Chansiri responded in short, to a question regarding how much time Luhukay will be given to turn things around at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday face four games in 11 days in a period that could well define their season, and face two promotion hopefuls in the form of West Brom and Middlesbrough in that run.

The verdict

It is certainly encouraging that the chairman is feeling the club will stay up, but at present, they are sleepwalking to League One, and there is not much that can change to stop that.

Dejphon Chansiri is sticking with Jos Luhukay for now, much to the annoyance of many supporters, but he is confident that the Owls will not go down.

I am not so sure I or many Wednesday fans can share in his optimism, but if the chairman doesn’t believe his side will stay up - who will?
