Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has decided to allow winger Florian Jozefzoon to go out on loan, it has been reported on Football Insider, with the Dutchman struggling to make an impact this season under Cocu.

The 28-year-old was a first team regular under Frank Lampard last season, scoring three goals in 35 appearances for the club following his arrival at Pride Park from Brentford in 2018.

So are Derby making the right decision to allow Jozefzoon to go out on loan?

We discuss.........

Chris Gallagher

"Yes it is, and it would have been an easy call.

"Jozefzoon has frankly not been good enough for Derby since joining and even though Cocu seemed a good fit for the winger, nothing has changed.

"Despite possessing good pace and having skill, he doesn't seem to apply himself properly and there are doubts over to his commitment too. It seems as though the boss has given up on him and the reality is that the Rams have much better options to choose from.

"The idea will be to sell the Dutchman for as much as they can and that can be used to improve the squad elsewhere. He is frustrating to watch and most fans will agree letting him go is the right call."

“Definitely the right decision. Signed at the start of Frank Lampard’s season in charge last term, Jozefzoon has struggled to make any consistent impact on the team since then.

“The winger has played just nine minutes since October, showing how little Phillip Cocu believes he is the man to turn to in his Derby squad at the minute.

“There was a big chase on for his signature when the Rams signed him from Brentford, but he hasn’t proved why there was such a tug-of-war for him, given he has only scored three times and registered two assists in 45 games.

“There will be clubs eager to take him in to try to rekindle his form and that could be very beneficial for him, given that he does have quality, but he definitely needs to leave Derby to do that.”

George Brooks

"This is 100% the right decision from Derby. Jozefzoon is a good player, but he's really struggled to make an impact this season. His performances for the Rams have been very disappointing and he appears to be suffering from a lack of confidence.

"He hasn't featured for Derby since early December and has made just one start for the club since the beginning of October. He's been left out of the matchday squad on several occasions this season and has clearly failed to impress Phillip Cocu.

"If he stays at Derby this month, it's very difficult to see him getting many opportunities in the team. Allowing him to leave on loan makes perfect sense for both the club and the player.

"It will hopefully allow Jozefzoon to experience regular first-team football again and would also free up some space in the squad for any new signings this month."
