Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is covering all the bases, with Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe being lined up in a £5m move as a possible replacement for Alfredo Morelos, should the Colombian leave Ibrox this summer, according to a report in The Sun.

Rangers are keen to keep hold of their star striker after he scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, with Gerrard gearing his side up for a title challenge having missed out by nine points last season to Old Firm rivals Celtic.

But should the Whites sell if Rangers come calling?

George Brooks

“I don’t think Leeds should consider selling Roofe to Rangers.

“Roofe was one of the standout players for Leeds in the Championship last season, despite struggling with injury problems and he finished the campaign as the Whites' top scorer with 15 goals.

“He could have another important role to play for Leeds next season and it would be a major blow for the Whites to lose him this summer.

“They'd find it very difficult to replace his goals and it would put an awful lot of pressure on Patrick Bamford to step up.

"I think he'd be a good signing for Rangers, but I think he's worth more than £5million and Leeds should do everything they can to keep hold of the forward this summer."

Gary Hutchinson

“For £5m? Absolutely not, no.

“I can see a benefit in cashing Roofe in. The 4-1-4-1, in my opinion, needs a physical striker up top, one who can hold the ball up if they’re under pressure and need to use a big boot as an out.

“That’s not Roofe, so someone else could be of use to Leeds. However, £5m is an insult, he’s worth significantly more than that.

“Will Grigg, a Championship reserve cost £4m. Roofe was a key part of Leeds rise to the top six last season and he’s got goals in him. His young enough to develop as well. The starting point has to be £10m.”

Toby Wilding

"I don't think they should, and definitely not at that price.

"Roofe was by some way Leeds' most reliable striking option last season in terms of goals last season, and had he been fit for the entire season, you wonder whether the outcome would have been considerably different.

"Given that the immediate aim is a return to the Premier League, the financial prize of winning that promotion and the significant part that Roofe will surely have to play next season if they are to end that long wait for top flight football at Elland Road, you feel the striker is worth much more to them the fee Rangers are reportedly set to offer.

"Even so, with just 12 months remaining on Roofe's contract at Leeds, this is yet another clear sign that this is a situation that needs clarifying once and for all sooner rather later."
