Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet is attempting to hijack the transfer of attacking midfielder Leonardo Morosini from Brescia to Ascoli in Italy, according to a report on website TuttoMercatoWeb.

The report claims that Pep Clotet is trying to capitalise on his relationship with Brescia president Massimo Cellino to help the deal, as the Blues head coach was assistant to Garry Monk when Cellino owned Leeds United.

So would Morosini be a good signing at St Andrews, if the Blues can get this deal over the line?

Jordan Rushworth

“Birmingham are certainly in real need of adding some creativity to their squad, with Pep Clotet’s side at times lacking the ability to break down well organised defences, and make the most of the possession they have enjoyed in matches.

“Morosini certainly has ability, having displayed real potential to develop into an excellent attacking midfielder during the early stages of his career, and it would be an interesting signing for the Blues to make this month, with the 24-year-old perhaps needing time to adapt to the Championship.

“The attacking midfielder has not had much involvement in Serie A with Brescia so far this campaign, making just three appearances so far, and that could suggest it would be a risk for the Blues to bring him into the club and expect him to hit the ground running.

“However, if Clotet could get the best out of him, then it could well turn out to be an excellent investment for the Blues, were they to secure a deal for Morosini in the closing weeks of the transfer window.”

“This could turn out to be a shrewd addition by Birmingham if they can convince Morosini to join the club this month.

“Although the attacking midfielder has struggled to make any inroads at Brescia in Serie A this season, his record in Italy’s second-tier is relatively impressive.

“Providing that he can replicate the performance levels which resulted in him providing six direct goal contributions last season, he may end up helping Birmingham retain their Championship status for another year.

“Furthermore, with Fran Villalba being linked with a move away from St Andrew’s, the Blues may need to bring in a replacement for the Spaniard and thus Morosini could fit the bill.”

George Harbey

"Birmingham are definitely in need of another creative player this month as Pep Clotet's side look to push up the table and climb closer towards the play-off spots, so Morosini could be a shrewd addition.

"Since the departure of Jota to Aston Villa in the summer, Blues have lacked that creative spark in the final third, and this should be something that Clotet looks to address this month.

"Fran Villalba has tried his best to step up to the plate and become Blues' talisman, but his performances have been up and down and his form has been patchy, and his future at St. Andrew's looks uncertain having been linked with a move away.

"Morosini is at a good age and has been a solid player for Brescia over the past few years, and he is able to slightly deeper if needs be which means that he could become a useful player for Clotet."
