Football League World's Millwall fan pundit Tom Luetchford, says he is relieved his side ultimately missed out on the signing  of Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet in the January transfer window.

It has looked as though Nisbet was all set to complete a move to The Den in the final week of the window, with the striker having been due to travel to London to undergo a medical with the Championship side.

It was claimed that a deal for the striker would have been worth up to £2million, a club record signing for Millwall.

However, that deal then fell through, with it being reported that the 25-year-old had ultimately decided against making that move on Friday.

Nisbet then went on to score for Hibs in their 6-0 win over Aberdeen at the weekend, but was forced off through injury during their 1-1 draw with Ross County on Tuesday night.

As a result, Luetchford is relieved that his side did not go through with the deal to sign the striker.

Asked whether he was frustrated that a deal for Nisbet had fallen through, or if felt his side had dodged a bullet with it not happening, the Millwall fan told Football League World:

"No not really. I really do think we dodged a bullet there. At first I was a bit like 'are we ever going to get a striker, we've left it late in the day'.

"But now seeing him get pulled up at Hibs and hearing he could be out for nearly three months, then yeah that's a definite bullet dodged.

"You wouldn't want to break your record signing fee, and then he gets injured a day later, would you?

"So definitely glad that we didn't get him in the end."

The verdict

You can understand the why there may be a sense of relief for Millwall fans that this deal has not happened.

It would have been a big investment for the club had they signed Nisbet, which would have made it even more frustrating for them had he picked up this injury while at The Den, given the wasted investment.

Indeed, having also completed deals for Duncan Watmore and Oliver Burke on deadline day, Gary Rowett does now have a decent amount of firepower to call upon in attack at The Den.

As a result, you do get the feeling that Millwall ought to be able to cope without the services of Nisbet, for the rest of the season.
