Andy Couzens has called for Marcelo Bielsa to play Leeds United forwards Eddie Nketiah and Patrick Bamford together.

Bamford has started upfront for all three of Leeds' Championship games so far this season, scoring three times.

Nketiah joined on loan from Arsenal on transfer deadline day and has made a fast start to his career at the club, scoring on his debut against Salford City in the Carabao Cup and for the under-23s on Monday.

Marcelo Bielsa currently faces a selection headache over which striker should lead the line for his side.

Speaking exclusively to FLW Editor Sam Rourke, Couzens suggested the Argentine coach should play both strikers, rather than starting with just one of them.

He said: “I would be tempted to play the two of them (Bamford and Nketiah) together.

“I’ve been watching the documentary about Leeds on Amazon and there was a time when Bielsa wanted Roofe and Bamford to play upfront together – I think there is no reason why you can’t look at it that way.

“I’d like to see the two of them because I think defenders would absolutely hate them. Two proper fox in the box style players who like to get in and around it.

“From what I have seen from Eddie he runs, he’s got pace, he gets behind people, he makes very intelligent runs, and then you’ve got Bamford who compliments that as well because he is very similar.

“The biggest problem Leeds had last year was that we created a whole load of chances but we didn’t have people in the box.

“In an ideal world, we want to be destroying teams, three, four, five-nil, which I think last year we should’ve done. There were times when we had 70% of possession and we just couldn’t finish it off.”

Couzens predicted that Bielsa would eventually shift to a line-up that included both Nketiah and Bamford.

He explained: “I would like to see both of them together up top. I think it will happen eventually but I don’t think it will be soon because we are feeling our way into the league again.

“It is like any season, you can’t dictate where you are going to be until 10 or 15 games into the season.

“We’re only three league games into the season and we’re doing alright for the minute but let’s get to 10 games and see where we are at that point.

“I would like to see both of them together. I think he (Nketiah) just needs to bide his time, a little bit like Helder Costa, but when his time comes I think he looks a very, very good player."
