Scott Malone has told Get West London, he believes Matt Smith is more than capable of replacing the unsettled Chris Martin in Fulham’s attack.

Martin informed Cottagers boss Slavisa Jokanovic, he wanted to return to parent club Derby last week.

Defender Malone believes forward Smith, who has scored just two goals this season, is an apt replacement.

Former Leeds striker Smith, came back into the Fulham side for Monday’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Malone was more than impressed with his performance: “I thought he played exceptionally well against two of the best centre halves in the league.

“He is more than capable (of replacing Martin.) He was tremendous in the first seven or eight games (of this season) so he’s more than capable.”

Smith was brought in from Leeds during the same summer, which saw Ross McCormack head to Craven Cottage.

During his one season at Elland Road, Smith found the net 13 times and was the club's second highest scorer - behind McCormack.

The west London outfit face Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday in the Emirates FA Cup, and Smith could start upfront for the Cottagers.
