With the January transfer window just around the corner, Bristol City must surely be braced for interest in some of their players.

Antoine Semenyo, for example, was heavily linked with a move away from the club in the summer, with Celtic, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth linked.

After staying at Ashton Gate, Semenyo has just three goals in 16 Championship appearances so far this season and has been in and out of the starting XI, with Pearson taking plenty of time to ease him back from injury.

Semenyo's Bristol City teammate Han-Noah Massengo could also attract interest in the coming weeks.

The 21-year-old midfielder's contract is set to expire next summer, and he has previously been linked with Leicester City, among others.

Ahead of the January window, in conversation with FLW, journalist Pete O'Rourke has said he imagines both players will attract interest in the coming weeks and months.

"Yeah, I would imagine there'll be interest in both these players." O'Rourke told FLW.

"There was interest in Semenyo in the summer transfer window. There was talk of Celtic strongly interested in acquiring his services but obviously, he stayed at Bristol City.

"He's been in and out of the team, I think with injuries and form, but I think on his day he's a very good young player who I think will only get better and better over time.

"He's coming into the final year of his contract, but they do have an option to extend it. So I'm sure they will take that up just to safeguard their asset."

"While on the other side you've got Massenngo who is coming to the end of his contract at the end of this season. So it's a difficult one for Bristol City - do they let him run down his contract and leave on a free? Or do they decide to try and listen to offers for him in January to try and recoup some money because he was a big money signing when he first arrived.

"So, decisions for Bristol City to make and I think for Nigel Pearson, in their current predicament, he would like to keep hold of all the best players."

The Verdict

It sounds as though Bristol City are going to have some tough decisions to make come the January transfer window.

In terms of Semenyo, they are in somewhat of a strong position with the reported option to extend, but, Massengo's situation is a lot more pressing.

Indeed, the 21-year-old will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club when 2023 arrives.

Given that the Robins are currently 18th in the Championship, they clearly won't want to lose anybody of quality at the moment, but, it may be that there are departures soon at Ashton Gate.
