When John Marquis was announced as a Portsmouth player back in the summer transfer window, he looked like being a serious transfer coup for Kenny Jackett's side.

He scored 21 goals for Doncaster last season as Grant McCann's men reached the play-offs before choosing to switch to the south coast after hearing about Pompey's offer.

However, with just two goals in 13 games to his name, it has not been the start of dreams.

Here, then, are THREE words that sum up his start to life in Portsmouth...

Underwhelming

There is no question that Marquis' start to life on the south coast has been thoroughly underwhelming.

Having breezed to over 20 goals for Donacster last season he was expected to do that again with even more ease and subsequently fire Pompey to promotion.

But with just two to his name so far, it is safe to say that he is yet to find his magic touch at Fratton Park and it is something that is becoming more and more desired.

Deceptive

It would be easy to glance at the striker's season and think he has been terrible throughout the opening months.

However, his allround game has generally been very good from match to match. His hold-up play and passing range has been impressive and sparked plenty of the few impressive attacking moments Jackett's side have had.

Of course, he should be scoring more goals, but he has been deceptively useful when leading the line so far this season.

Admirable

It would have been very easy for Marquis to let his head drop after only finding the net two times so far, but you have to admire how he keeps coming back.

Having done it before, he will know he more than has what it takes to thrive at this level. Even still, how often do we see the confidence drain from somebody after such a barron patch?

That has not happened to Marquis yet which will be a hugely positive sign for Jackett.
