Bournemouth winger David Brooks has made a bright start to the new campaign, netting three times in six appearances in all competitions thus far.

The Welsh international, who helped out with 13 goal contributions last season, had emerged as a transfer target at Premier League club Newcastle United over the summer.

Brooks progressed through the academies at Manchester City and Sheffield United, before emerging as a first-team regular at the latter.

The Cherries signed the Warrington-born winger in 2018, with Brooks now nearing 100 appearances for the south coast club.

During an interview with Football FanCast, Dean Windass has suggested that Brooks is the type of player Steve Bruce would have wanted at Newcastle this summer: “Brooks is a good player. He can play in the Premier League and he is the type that Steve would probably like. Welsh international, did very well in the Premier League when Bournemouth played there, young boy as well.”

The verdict

Brooks has lots of desirable attributes that make him a very exciting option for Scott Parker to have in his Bournemouth squad and could certainly shine once again in the higher division.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut season in the Premier League with Bournemouth during the 2018/19 campaign and all the signs suggest that he could impress in the higher tier again.

Keeping hold of Brooks will come as an excellent boost for Parker. The winger's ability to beat a man, produce quality in the final third, and desire to work hard for his team, all make him a manager's dream.

It will be no surprise to see the Premier League come knocking again in January, and if he continues to shine in the second-tier, then there may be a few more teams registering their interest.
