Aston Villa’s summer signing John McGinn has been a diamond in the rough so far at Villa Park.

It has been a dreadful start to the season for Villa, with Steve Bruce sacked as manager at the start of the month.

Despite this, John McGinn’s performances have earned him vast plaudits from those watching this struggling Villa side.

McGinn signed from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in the summer as an unknown in this country, but he has became a fan favourite at Villa Park already.

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish talked of John McGinn as one of the players that was capable of dragging his country from the footballing doldrums, with the midfielder a regular under Alex McLeish.

Most memorably, the 23-year-old scored a goal that went viral in Steve Bruce’s 100th game in charge.

The Scotsman fired a rising volley from nearly 30 yards past Sheffield Wednesday, with a strike that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Roberto Carlos best goals compilation video.

Aside from this, his general performances have been extremely pleasing too, with his relentless work-rate and desire impressive. All of that combined means McGinn is quickly moulding into one of the best players at Villa this season.

With Dean Smith set to take charge of his first game this weekend, he will be hoping McGinn can continue his form and start helping Villa on their way to some wins.

There are several players that need to improve their performances under the new boss but Smith will be wanting more of the same from his classy midfield man.
