Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has revealed just how much he is enjoying watching his side play at home, as he called to make it a fortress for the remainder of the season.

The new boss has made an instant impact at his boyhood club, with Villa currently boasting a six-game unbeaten run that has put them in the promotion hunt.

And, their home form has been key to that, with Villa picking up ten points from a possible twelve since Smith was appointed.

Unsurprisingly, the ex-Brentford manager wants more of the same, telling the club's media how crucial that can be.

"I just love playing at Villa Park. It’s very important to try and make it a fortress. We have had that so far since I came in. Long may that continue."

Villa are back on home turf this afternoon when they host Stoke City in what is a vital game for the Potters too, with both sides having ambitions of breaking into the top six.

However, Villa will have to end a pretty dismal record against the Staffordshire side at home, with Stoke unbeaten in their last six at Villa Park including three successive wins.

The Verdict

Villa fans will love hearing this from Smith and that passion and desire has rubbed off on the whole club.

They have been excellent at home since he came in and the fans have responded to that, turning up in big numbers and creating a good atmosphere.

Now, it's about continuing that today, against a Stoke side that will pose a real threat.
