Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has confirmed that top scorer Tammy Abraham will miss Monday's game against Millwall after picking up a shoulder injury.

The on-loan Chelsea striker bagged his 25th goal of the season against the Trotters after bundling home following a Jack Grealish assist.

However, he was injured in the process and was replaced by Keinan Davis for the final half hour.

And, Express & Star reporter Matt Maher caught up with Smith after the game and posted the latest update on the 21-year-old.

"Tammy Abraham has a shoulder injury. Smith says too early to diagnose but striker expected to miss Monday."

Obviously that will be a major blow for the West Midlands outfit, although there was some good news with Ivory Coast international Jonathan Kodjia poised to return.

He is sure to be competing with Davis for a start against the Lions, who are battling for survival.

The victory against Bolton on Saturday was Villa's ninth in a row and they are six points ahead of seventh place as we approach the final few weeks of the campaign.

The Verdict

This is bad news for Villa but the news coming out the club suggests he will play before the end of the season.

Abraham is a massive player for Smith's men and his goal return this season has been fantastic.

But, Villa have depth up top and it's now down to Kodjia to step up and a win against Neil Harris' men could see the manager rotate his team for the final few games as they gear up for the play-offs.
